McKinleyville Woman Sentenced to Nine Years for DUI Manslaughter of Pedestrian, Fleeing the Scene A 27-year-old McKinleyville woman will serve nine years in state prison for running over and killing a pedestrian while driving drunk and on drugs. This morning Judge John Feeney accepted Shala Marie Bianco’s guilty plea to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, along with the special allegation of hit-and-run. Bianco. Under her agreement with the District Attorney’s Office, Bianco will serve four years for the manslaughter and five years for fleeing the scene after her Toyota Rav 4 struck and killed Clifford Deckert, 47. The maximum penalty for gross vehicular manslaughter is 10 years. ....
# # # Officers at the scene of the crime in King Salmon where Daisy Leen (pictured at right in a 2020 mugshot) is charged with stabbing her two young children Today Judge John Feeney suspended the case against 29-year-old Daisy Mae Opal Leen after her attorney, Deputy Conflict Counsel R.J. Loehner, expressed doubt that she is mentally competent to stand trial. Leen, who has been in jail since the day of the stabbing, did not appear for the hearing this morning. Feeney appointed Dr. Jennifer Wilson to evaluate Leen for competency. Wilson’s report is due later this month. Leen allegedly stabbed the boys, ages 7 and 11, then got a ride to Eureka and began brandishing a knife at a gas station. Both children are expected to survive, although one had to be flown out of the area for medical treatment. ....
Acosta (left) and Carroll. ### Eureka attorney Michael Acosta and his partner Sarah Carroll, charged with maintaining a drug house and possession of drugs for sale, have been scheduled for a jury trial in late August. This morning Judge John Feeney scheduled an Aug. 30 trial for the couple, who were arrested Feb. 4 when Drug Task Force agents raided their home on Cedar Street. The house also serves as Acosta’s law office. Both Acosta and Carroll are out of custody, and Acosta is continuing to practice law locally. Acosta is representing himself, with attorney Andrea Sullivan representing Carroll. Sullivan, appearing via Zoom this morning, said she has an appointment Friday to review the district attorney’s case file. There are “numerous unknown confidential witnesses,” she said. ....
ETTERSBURG MURDER CASE: Judge Rules That Ryan Tanner Must Stand Trial For Murder Ryan Anthony Tanner must stand trial for murder, kidnapping, arson and a slew of other charges, Judge John Feeney ruled Wednesday. Feeney, who presided over Tanner’s 13-day preliminary hearing, ruled enough evidence was presented to provide “probable cause” that Tanner murdered 26-year-old Jason Todd Garrett on Feb. 12 in a cabin near Ettersburg. Tanner. It’s also suspected that Tanner, 33, burned down the cabin and set several brush fires in the area in an effort to conceal his crime.
