RICHMOND, Ind. A 20-year-old has been sentenced to six years of incarceration after admitting he injured a 3-week-old baby.
Joshua Josiah Brunty of Richmond pleaded guilty to battery and neglect of a dependent, both as Level 3 felonies because they resulted in serious injuries, according to case records. As stipulated by the plea agreement Brunty reached with the Wayne County Prosecutor s Office, Judge Gregory Horn recently sentenced him to nine years with three years suspended to probation.
Nine years is the standard sentence for a Level 3 felony conviction as established by the Indiana legislature. ....

Richmond man Calvin S. Johnson sentenced to 30 years

The sentencing orders indicate that Johnson may file a motion for modification of his sentence after he has served 15 years. Without a modification and by earning the maximum good-time credit, Johnson, who was credited with 706 days served and 236 good-time days, would serve 22½ years of the sentence.
Johnson, however, could also face more penalties. He still has an active case in Union County that charges him with Level 4 felony unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and Level 5 felony possession of cocaine. A trial is scheduled for Aug. 31 in that case.

RICHMOND, Ind. An arrest warrant was issued Thursday for a father accused of neglecting his then-4-month-old daughter, who was catastrophically injured.
Matthew J. Shaffer, 28, is wanted after his bond was revoked. Shaffer failed to appear at a Superior Court 2 hearing this week about the bond revocation, and Judge Gregory Horn revoked the bond and ordered the arrest warrant.
Shaffer and Casey Renee Miller, 27, are both charged with five counts of neglect of a dependent, one as a Level 1 felony, three as Level 3 felonies and one as a Level 6 felony. The four more serious charges resulted from injuries, including a brain injury, a fractured rib, a broken arm and retinal damage, sustained by their daughter, and the fifth charge is for failing to promptly seek medical care. ....

Methamphetamine lands Richmond man 7-year sentence
RICHMOND, Ind. A Richmond man caught twice with methamphetamine has been sentenced to more than seven years of incarceration.
Dustin Dean Brooks, 28, recently pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of methamphetamine, one a Level 3 felony and one a Level 6 felony. The plea agreement he reached with the Wayne County Prosecutor s Office dismissed a habitual offender allegation against Brooks.
As stipulated by the deal, Judge Gregory Horn sentenced Brooks to seven years on the Level 3 felony and to 270 days on the Level 6 felony. Brooks will serve the sentences consecutively because he committed the Level 6 felony while on pretrial release in the Level 3 case. ....
