The Orange Order has agreed to engage in talks with a nationalist residents group in north Belfast, following an appeal by a unionist residents group. The Twaddell and Woodvale Residents Association asked local Orange lodges to speak to the Crumlin and Ardoyne Residents Association to find a way to help the 12th of July parades pass off peacefully.

Two people have been arrested after a gun was fired at a play park in north Belfast. The incident happened in the Beverley Street area, off the Shankill Road, on Thursday. A man, who was brandishing a shotgun, fired a shot into the air and left the park with a woman. Local residents stopped the pair in Beverley Street. ....

Sir Jeffrey Donaldson and Edwin Poots are to stand as candidates for the DUP leadership.
Gregory Campbell, Paula Bradley and Paul Frew are the candidates for deputy leader, the party chairman Lord Morrow said in a statement.
A leadership contest will take place on Friday, 14 May, to replace the current leader Arlene Foster and deputy leader Nigel Dodds.
Sir Jeffrey said: I am convinced that in this new century, Northern Ireland s best days are ahead of us.
We want to build a shared future for Northern Ireland where everyone, regardless of their background, has a part to play in showing the world what we are truly capable of. ....

Human Rights Commission Challenges Law On Offenders Rehabilitation In NI
The Human Rights Commission is challenging the current law on the rehabilitation of offenders in Northern Ireland.
The current law prevents any convictions of more than 30 months in prison from ever becoming spent. The full hearing will be heard remotely at 10.30am on 6 May in the Judicial Review Court, Belfast.
Chief Commissioner of the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission Les Allamby stated: The Human Rights Commission is supporting the applicant at Court today. Currently the law in Northern Ireland means that any conviction of over two and a half years in prison must always be disclosed, no matter what the circumstances and however long ago the offence was committed. There is also no review mechanism for past offenders. In this case, the applicant has not committed any criminal offence for 40 years yet continues to have to disclose a criminal record un ....

Man Attacked In Ballymena
A man has been attacked by two intruders who forced their way into a house in Ballymena.
The victim was punched in the face and beaten with a baseball bat at a property on Princess Street at around 6pm on Tuesday, 04 May.
He did not need hospital treatment, however he did receive media attention.
Detective Sergeant Lenaghan said: One of the men is described as being approximately 6 ft 1” to 6 ft 2” tall, around 30 years of age, of stocky build and clean shaven. He was dressed in a dark coloured baseball cap and an Adidas tracksuit.
The second male is described as being approximately 5 ft 7 to 5 ft 8 tall, around 18 or 19 years of age, and of slim build. He had dirty fair hair which appeared to be shaved at the sides and back, and was dressed in a dark red zipped hoody and grey tracksuit bottoms. ....
