OPINION | Mogoeng apology: Criticising Israel is not anti-Christian

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng needs to understand that criticising Israel for its human rights violations is not anti-Christian, writes
Roshan Dadoo.
In a significant victory for the Palestine solidarity movement, the Judicial Conduct Committee (JCC) has instructed Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng to retract statements that he made on Israel s occupation of Palestine, and apologise unconditionally to the South African BDS Coalition and two other pro-Palestine groups that had submitted complaints to the JCC.
The complaints centred on the statements that the Chief Justice made during a webinar hosted by the right-wing Israeli newspaper,
The Jerusalem Post,  in June last year. Mogoeng headlined the event, along with South Africa s Chief Rabbi, Warren Goldstein, and the discussion was marketed under the theme Two Chiefs, One Mission . ....

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng has been told to retract his comments around Israel, but he still hasn t indicated whether he intends to do so. Meanwhile, allegations swirl about that some judges were allegedly bribed by the CR17 campaign.  ....

[LISTEN] Freedom Under Law Calls for Western Cape Judge John Hlophe's Suspension

Freedom Under Law has called for the suspension of Western Cape judge president John Hlophe, pending the conclusion of the proceedings for his removal from office.
The organisation’s chairperson, retired Justice Johann Kriegler was speaking to Radio Islam on Tuesday.
Justice Kriegler made the call after Hlophe acquitted African National Congress (ANC) MP Bongani Bongo on a charge of corruption last week.
It is alleged that Bongo attempted to bribe Eskom inquiry evidence leader Ntuthuzelo Vanara.
Justice Kriegler says Hlophe must be suspended.
“There’s provision in the constitution and the Judicial Service Commission Act for such a suspension when a man is under investigation for an impeachable offence. It has not happened, it should’ve happened. He should not be on the bench.” ....
