Telangana High Court on Wednesday instructed Siddipet district Collector and other Revenue officials concerned to file detailed counter affidavits in a writ appeal over some persons “voluntarily relinquishing rights over lands assigned to them by State government”.
A bench of Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy, passing the direction, issued notices to Gajwel Revenue Divisional Officer and Kondapaka Tahsildar along with Siddipet district Collector. The notices were issued in a writ appeal filed by four farmers of Duddeda village of Kondapaka mandal in Siddipet district. ....

New Delhi [India], February 28 (ANI): Senior Judge of Delhi High Court, Justice Siddharth Mridul has been nominated as a member of the governing council of National Law University, Delhi by Chief Justice D N Patel.
The Chief Justice, who is also Chancellor of National Law University, Delhi through a notification issued on February 26, 2021, nominated Justice Siddharth Mridul as Member, Governing Council of National Law University Delhi for a period up to June 29, 2023, with immediate effect.
It is worthwhile to note that earlier Justice Hima Kohli was a Member of NLU s governing council and pursuant to her elevation as Chief Justice of Telangana High Court, Hyderabad, Justice Mridul s name has been nominated by the Chief Justice. ....

SC judge strength below 2009 level, collegium not met for 6 months | India News


NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court faces a crisis of sorts as its present judge strength has depleted below the numbers sanctioned more than a decade ago and the situation could worsen in future with no urgent steps being taken by the five-member Collegium led by Chief Justice S A Bobde to fill the vacancies.
The sanctioned strength of SC Judges was increased from 26 to 31, including the CJI, in 2009, but its present strength is 30 Judges. With five more retirements - Justice Indu Malhotra (March 13), CJI Bobde (April 23), Justices Ashok Bhushan (July 4), R F Nariman (August 12) and Navin Sinha (August 18) - scheduled in the next six months, the strength could deplete below 1988 level, when it was increased from 18 to 26. The number of SC judges was increased from 31 to 34 in 2019. ....
