Alliance For Change (AFC) leader Khemraj Ramjattan yesterday said Tourism Minister Oneidge Walrond should be fined for sitting in the National Assembly while knowing she was a dual citizen.
Following declarations on Thursday by acting Chief Justice Roxane George that Walrond was not lawfully appointed as a Member of Parliament (MP) and a government minister, Ramjattan said his party expects the government and Parliament to address the issue and provide proof that she was sworn in for a second time.
It was admitted by Attorney General Anil Nandlall during a High Court hearing on Thursday that Walrond was sworn in again as a government minister on December 1st, which was previously not publicly announced. ....

Attorney General Anil Nandlall today told the High Court that the appointment of Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Oneidge Walrond as a Member of Parliament had been unconstitutional and that the matter will remedied by having her sworn-in again.
The government had made no announcement that Walrond was to be sworn-in again as an MP. She was sworn-in again as a Minister on December 1st. There had been no announced by the government about this.
Walrond had first taken the oath as a Minister on August 5th and then as an MP on September 1st. Both appointments transgressed the law as she was still a dual citizen. Both she and the government had up to that point argued that no wrong had been committed. ....
