Two judges of the Madras High Court on Thursday delivered a split verdict on whether Milk and Dairy Development Minister K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji must be booked on charges of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Justice M. Sathyanarayanan eschewed a preliminary inquiry report giving him a clean chit, filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption and insisted on registering an FIR against the Minister to conduct a full-fledged investigation. However, Justice R. Hemalatha differed with him and ordered that there was no need to do so after the State government had accepted the preliminary report and dropped further proceedings in the matter. ....

The Madras High Court on Thursday reserved its orders on a writ petition filed in 2013 accusing Milk and Dairy Development Minister K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji of having amassed wealth disproportionate to his known source of income ever since he held the post of vice-president of Tiruthangal Town Panchayat (now a Municipality) in Virudhunagar district in 1996. ....

Judges want proposal revised for benefit of differently-abled
The State government on Thursday informed the Madras High Court that 10% of the 2,213 city buses to be purchased for use in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai would be low-floor buses which could be accessed easily by the differently-abled.
Appearing before a Division Bench of Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and R. Hemalatha, Advocate General Vijay Narayan said the government had already inked a pact with German development bank KfW for purchasing new city buses.
The bank had agreed to finance a project for operation of climate-friendly modernization of bus service in the major cities of the State as a measure towards improving the performance and restructuring of the ailing State Transport Undertakings (STUs). ....
