This year’s D&AD awards results have been announced with Kim Gehrig taking the top prize. The Somesuch director received the President’s Awards at last night’s awards and elsewhere, a total of 664 pencils were awarded including three Black, 63 Yellow, 190 Graphite, 390 Wood, two Hustle, five Future Impact, nine Next and two Collaborative. The three Black Pencils were awarded to work addressing important social issues. This included work around the Black Lives Matter movement, transgender identities and stigma around menstruation. ....

Screen Australia has announced $1.3 million for five online projects.
The announcement:
Screen Australia has announced $1.3 million of online production funding for five projects. Award-winning children’s series First Day will return for season 2, along with ReCancelled which follows on from director Luke Eve’s 2020 lockdown drama Cancelled.
The projects also include Sunset Paradise, a new series from the creators of YouTube hit Meta Runner; as well as animated children’s series Ginger & the Vegesaurs and comedy series The Emu War.
Screen Australia’s Senior Online Investment Manager Lee Naimo said, “We’re excited to support these projects which showcase engaging storytelling across a mix of genres including children’s, comedy, animation and a relationship drama. The 2021 Outfest Fusion QTBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous and People of Color) Film Festival announced Wednesday that it will honor Michaela Coel with the Fusion Achievement Award and Academy Award nominee Andra Day with the James Schamus Ally Award on Saturday, April 17th.
The 2021 Fusion Achievement Award, which recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to LGBTQIA+ stories, arts, and media visibility will honor Coel’s body of work. Past recipients of the Award include Nisha Ganatra, Angela Robinson, Rose Troche, Wilson Cruz, Alec Mapa, Patrik-Ian Polk, Cheryl Dunye, Brickson Diamond, and Rikki Beadle-Blair. ....
