Shadow and Bone season 2 should be announced any day now. All signs show that Netflix is happy with the performance of its recent release, which seems to have been a hit (thanks in no small part to the YA novel’s readership). That said, we wouldn’t be shocked to learn that new audiences are joining in the fun of fawning over Ben Barnes’ brooding performance as The Darkling (yes, it feels wrong, but that’s half the fun).
So, fans of the Small Science and those new to the Grishaverse, we re breaking down everything to know about the (likely) Shadow and Bone season 2. So, not just when we may learn more, but when we could expect the next batch of episodes and who to expect this time around (and new characters who could show up). When âShadow and Boneâ, which is based on Leigh Bardugoâs bestselling Grishaverse novels, arrived on Netflix, fans went gaga over the fantasy mystery series.
The first season is a combination of âShadow and Boneâ and âSix of Crowsâ. A second instalment is yet to be announced.
As much as the narrative is centred on Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), it also introduced the thieving Crows gang: Kaz Brekker aka Dirtyhands (Freddy Carter), who is the leader of the Crows, Inej Ghafa aka Wraith (Amita Suman) as well as Zemeni sharpshooter Jesper Fahey (Kit Young).

Picture Shop, an award-winning post production house offering comprehensive picture services, and Ghost VFX, a renowned full-service visual effects company, collaborated on the recently released series Shadow and Bone, based on Leigh Bardugo s bestselling fantasy novels.
A Netflix production from 21 Laps Entertainment, Shadow and Bone follows mapmaker and orphan Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), who discovers she has extraordinary powers that could greatly impact her war-torn country. As she struggles to perfect her power, she finds that nothing is what it seems and dangerous forces are in play, including a group of charismatic criminals.
Showrunner Eric Heisserer tapped director Lee Toland Krieger and cinematographer David Lanzenberg to create the series look over the first two episodes. Picture Shop Senior Colorist Shane Harris, who first collaborated with Krieger and Lanzenberg on Celeste & Jesse Forever (2012), was also brought on board.
While the TV shows adapt two book series, they re still from the same universe called the Grishaverse so most of the elements remain the same.
Shadow and Bone takes place in a war-torn world, separated by the mysterious Shadow Fold (or simply called the Fold in the show) which is crawling with winged monsters, Volcra, that feast on human flesh.
Upon the Fold s accidental creation by the Shadow Summoner or the Black Heretic, it splits the country of Ravka into two East Ravka and West Ravka which leads the whole country into years of war and conflict.
It follows Alina Starkhov who initially believes she s just a simple cartographer but has suddenly unleashed an extraordinary power that was just thought to be a legend. Her powers could be the key to destroying the Fold and setting her country free.
