Ride of Silence Bike Ride Through Charles City Wednesday Night – KCHA News

Biking enthusiasts are invited to a special ride Wednesday (05.19) night to honor Charles City-area bicyclists killed after being struck by vehicles.
Organizer Bob Krueger says the “Ride of Silence” will pay tribute to the latest victim, Ellen Bengston, who died last August after being hit by a pickup south of Charles City along Shadow Avenue, north of 240th Street.
Krueger says the event is also an effort to educate bicyclists to make themselves more visible to motorists and to remind motorists to share the road with bikers. He adds, unfortunately, that hasn’t always been the case in recent years. ....

Man shot to death at motel parking lot on Indy's northeast-side

Indianapolis police are investigating after a man was found shot to death in the parking lot of a northeast side motel early Thursday morning, according to officials.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to a motel in the 6800 block of East 21st Street near the intersection with Shadeland Avenue on a report of a person shot at 12:18 a.m.
Arriving officers found a man with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the motel, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to IMPD officials. The Marion County Coroner s Office later Thursday morning identified the deceased as 22-year-old Marquise Lang and said Lang died of a gunshot wound. ....

Virginia Delores Carl-son, age 89 and 11/12ths, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021, at UPMC Chautauqua. Born in Jamestown, N.Y., she was the last surviving child of eight children born to the late Edwin A. and Johanna K. Pederson Anderson.
Virginia grew up with her seven brothers and sisters on Woodlawn Avenue and Camp Street in Jamestown and was a graduate of Jamestown High School. In her early years, she worked at Jamestown Royal, the Printz Company and Art Metal Corporation.
On Feb. 14, 1958, she married Charles E. Carlson and together they raised four children in a wonderful neighborhood on Shadyside Avenue in Lakewood, where the couple still resided. ....
