Future of wind power forum set for April 28 COURTESY OF METROWEST CLIMATE SOLUTIONS MetroWest Climate Solutions will sponsor a virtual forum featuring Amber Hewett, the newly appointed co-chair of the MA Offshore Wind Committee, 7-8:15 p.m. April 28 via Zoom. Hewett will discuss legislative developments for offshore wind in Massachusetts and surrounding states; new hope for Vineyard Wind in Nantucket sound: fewer turbines, a new configuration, and the project’s possibilities for approval at the Board of Ocean Energy Management; offshore wind in the Gulf of Maine, including latest updates on projected developments; and why all residents of New England should support offshore wind as one of the main ways to decarbonize our region and economy. ....
Wicked Local The following was submitted by the Sustainable Weston Action Group: It just seemed too hard, Cathy Jeon thought. What food items am I supposed to compost? How do I prevent it from smelling? And what if it attracts animals? But last summer, Jeon was forced to figure out composting while living in Vermont when a state ban on putting food scraps in the trash was implemented. Jeon learned that composting food and other organic materials is a win-win. Over the past year she has experimented with a range of composting methods, from the small Vitamix FoodCycler she keeps in her basement, to a backyard tumbler, to commercial pickup with Bootstrap Compost. She is even familiar with Green Cones, backyard solar digesters that break down all food waste, including meat, bones and dairy. ....
Katharina Wilkins The Sustainable Weston Action Group (SWAG) invites all interested residents to collaborate on what has become an annual tradition: The Fourth Annual Town Cleanup is taking place this week through April 18, just in time to beautify our roadsides, trails and fields for Earth Day on April 22. As in years prior, the focus of the Town Cleanup will be to unite friends and neighbors around our common cause reducing the amount of litter in our environment while respecting each individual’s comfort level and continuing to follow COVID-19 guidance provided by our town’s Health Department. Previous years have taught us that we can find litter everywhere once we look. We have seen every time that children become invested once they realize how much they can collect and we see them come away with a sense of pride and connection as they help their hometown become cleaner and greener.
