South County cities are still weighing whether to mandate vaccines for their employees and evaluating enforcement options, officials said Friday.
Chula Vista, the second-largest city in San Diego County with about 1,100 employees, is encouraging, but not requiring employees to get vaccinated. On Thursday, the city announced it would follow the Centers for Disease and Control and Prevention’s latest recommendation that vaccinated and unvaccinated people wear masks in indoor public settings.
“The City of Chula Vista continues to follow County and State Public Health guidance. At this time we are recommending all employees and visitors wear masks,” city spokeswoman Anne Steinberger said in a statement Friday. “We continue to encourage employees to receive the vaccine and we are tracking the vaccination progress of our employee population. We offer weekly onsite vaccination opportunities for our employees and are exploring options for increased enforcement of ....

Last week, the Humboldt County Public Health Division joined a growing coalition of counties in advising residents to go back to wearing masks indoors in public places, regardless of vaccination status. On Tuesday, the CDC changed
its guidance, urging the vaxed and unvaxed alike across much of the country to resume wearing masks indoors in public areas.

The California Department of Public Health has updated their guidance for face coverings statewide, aligning it with the mandates that L.A. County and the CDC calling for the public to wear masks indoors regardless of vaccination status.
“The Delta variant has caused a sharp increase in hospitalizations and case rates across the state. We are recommending masking in indoor public places to slow the spread while we continue efforts to get more Californians vaccinated,” said Dr. Tomás J. Aragón, CDPH Director and State Public Health Officer.
According to the CDC, getting vaccinated helps protect from the virus and the circulating variants, including the Delta variant that is now seen in the majority of California’s new cases. ....
