Free tree-giving event at Howard Park this Saturday By: Maura Johnson SOUTH BEND, Ind. – South Bend Venues Parks & Arts is hosting a community free tree-giving event at Howard Park on May 1. From noon to 2 p.m., the first 200 guests at the event will receive a free tree seedling to plant in their own yards. Guests can also make a day of by sampling complimentary food and enjoying the Park’s playground. South Bend VPA will also host State Senator David Niezgodski and State Representative Maureen Bauer at this event. “With the 2021 session coming to a close, I’m looking forward to spending more time in the community and connecting more personally with the Hoosiers I represent,” said State Senator David Niezgodski. “This tree-giving event is a great opportunity for families to get outdoors, enjoy some time in the neighborhood and celebrate spring by selecting a new tree to grow in their yard.”

Dave Arnold’s death on Sunday morning following his 15-month-long battle with brain cancer. He was 49.
