On the corner of St. Nicholas Avenue and 125th Street in Harlem last Thursday, Yang greeted voters, dressed in his dark blue suit with light blue open-collar shirt. In the warmer weather, he has ditched the signature scarf, and that’s not all that’s changing. ....

State Senator John Liu threw his support behind Andrew Yang in the Democratic Primary race for mayor on Monday.
The former city councilman, comptroller and mayoral candidate compared Yang to history-making figures in New York City politics, praising him for putting the Asian American community in the spotlight during his presidential campaign.

Stony Brook University hosts Asian American and Pacific Islander anti-racism forum – The Statesman

 JOCELYN CRUZ/THE STATESMAN
Newspaper headlines from over 100 years ago showing anti-Asian rhetoric and policies in America flashed across the screen. A minute later, television news reports from the past year about violence and harassment against Asian-Americans echoed the messages from nearly a century ago.
The scene shifted to the voices of a dozen Asian and Pacific Islander students at Stony Brook University. “I have been discriminated against,” one student said, “I have been verbally harassed,” said another.
“Because of my racial identity,” they said in unison.
Even more voices flooded the presentation, this time expressing words of solidarity with the students and other victims of harassment and violence. ....

Amid a surge in hate crimes and violence against Asian Americans, New York students, parents, and lawmakers want schools to combat intolerance through education, with an infusion of Asian-American history and culture they say has been glaringly absent so far.

They also want officials to make Asian American and Pacific Island Heritage Month part of the school calendar with activities to match, and provide students with tools to confront racism in their communities.  ....
