GGRAsia – Four Jeju casinos still running as island at Covid Level 2

South Korean casino destination Jeju island entered on Friday at 12am, “Level 2” of the country’s social-distancing rules in a countermeasure to Covid-19, as outlined by the local government on Thursday. It will apply until January 3, 2021. Jeju media outlets reported that Level 2 required all Jeju’s casinos – venues for foreigner-only customers – to suspend operation. But according to GGRAsia’s phone enquiries on Friday, four of eight Jeju casinos said they would continue to run their operations as of Friday. They were: Gongzi Jeju, which said it would be open daily from 2pm to 5.30am on following mornings; Paradise Casino Jeju Grand, run by Korea Exchange-listed Paradise Co Ltd, which is operating from 2pm until 6am; Landing Casino (pictured) at Jeju Shinhwa World, a property of Hong Kong-listed Landing International Development Ltd, and which says it is running 24 hours per day; plus Casino Lotte Tour at Lotte Hotel Jeju, operating from 2pm until 10pm each day.

Jeju Dream Tower opens in South Korea

December 18, 2020 True to its November announcement, Korea based, Lotte Tour Development Co Ltd, will celebrate the official opening of its US$1.4 billion Jeju Dream Tower integrated resort on December 18, after securing final approvals for its 1,600-room Grand Hyatt hotel. Citing news agency Jeju Sori, Inside Asia Gaming reports that the integrated lifestyle desitnation for the semi-autonomous island of Jeju, has also gained status as a tourist accommodation business, having been registered under the Tourist Promotion Act and Jeju Tourism Promotion Ordinance. The distinction, according to the source, is applicable to hotels with 30-plus rooms and includes specific requirements on facilities in addition to “provisions on foreign ownership and use rights for the land and buildings.”

The authorities in Jeju city, the capital of the South Korean holiday island Jeju, said on Thursday they had issued a tourism accommodation business registration certificate to the Grand Hyatt Jeju hotel within the Jeju Dream Tower development (pictured in an artist’s rendering), enabling the hotel to open to the public on Friday (December 18) as scheduled. That is according to Yonhap news agency. Grand Hyatt Jeju features 1,600 all-suite rooms. The property also offers 14 restaurants and bars, and “world-class hotel amenities and recreational facilities,” according to previous statements by the promoter. Jeju Dream Tower – promoted by Lotte Tour Development Co Ltd – is expected eventually to have a foreigner-only casino.
