It was a time well spent on Thursday July 15th, 2021 with the 91 years old Aare Afe Babalola, the Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD). It was not my first time with him in the phenomenal ABUAD city. As a matter of fact, my first time was in 2015 when he sponsored the hosting of Ekitipanupo 2nd Public Lecture delivered by Emeritus Professor Michael Omolewa. I have also been there on his invitation to other events in ABUAD including the formal commission of the huge Teaching Hospital Complex. What made my courtesy visit of July 15 different is that it took me over two hours to be taken round the expansive frontline and unique private university in Africa. ....

Afe Babalola canvasses longer years for serving judges

Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), has admonished authorities in the judiciary to review the retirement age of judicial officers.
The Director, Corporate Information of the university, Mr. Tunde Olofintila, in a statement in Ado Ekiti, yesterday, said Babalola gave the advice during virtual launch of books in honour of retired Justice Bode Rhodes-Vivour of the Supreme Court to mark his retirement from the Bench upon attaining age 70.
According to him, Babalola particularly canvassed upward review of the retirement age of Supreme Court justices from the current 70 to about 100 years, “if life service is not possible.” ....

COVID-19: Mass closure of varsities unconstitutional, Afe Babalola tells FG

Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola, SAN has said the continuous closure of universities in the country as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic was unconstitutional and would be counter-productive.
He was reacting to the statement credited to the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, that the January 18 earlier set by the federal government for school resumption would be reviewed.
The frontline lawyer said such action would be so disastrous to the education sector and the future of many students in the country.
Babalola who spoke while addressing newsmen in ABUAD on Wednesday frowns at the attempt by the federal government to defer the resumption of universities earlier slated for January 18, describing it as a decision targeted mainly at the private institutions. ....
