As part of Gov. Ralph Northamâs âOne Virginiaâ plan, local governments and other organizations are encouraged to critique themselves when it comes to implementing racial equity strategies. Fredericksburg officials met last Thursday and Friday at a two-day retreat at Executive Plaza on Caroline Street to advance the cityâs racial equity initiative. Among the topics of discussion was the Continuum of Inclusive and Equitable Organizational Development, which is part of the One Virginia plan. The continuum lists six stages of achieving inclusiveness, with Stage 6 being the ultimate goal. Fredericksburg Mayor Mary Katherine Greenlaw said the city is currently reviewing its practices to determine where it falls short, which would place it at Stage 4 or the âaffirmingâ stage. ....
UAH taking first steps to create ‘college town experience’ with campus expansion Updated 11:08 AM; Two years after the plan was first introduced, the University of Alabama in Huntsville is taking the first steps to develop the Executive Plaza property the school purchased in 2017 in what’s described an ambitious expansion of the campus. The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees last week approved $4.1 million for the school to demolish the abandoned buildings at the 58-acre site across Sparkman Drive from the Bevill Center. The project’s master plan, in part, envisions a “lively cluster of student-focused retail, food and beverage options that builds the college town experience” as well as more campus housing, offices for UAH as well as the private sector and possibly a multi-use facility that would provide the school with its first campus home for its hockey team. [email protected] Inmate numbers in the Lycoming County Prison system increased during the month of March, according to statistics released at the prison board meeting. Warden Brad Shoemaker reported that the average daily overall figure for male and female inmates was at 264.26 during the month compared to 243.04 in February. “We saw in increase in every category,” he said. The average daily male inmate figure was 234.55 for March and 219.57 for February. Female inmates for March showed an average daily population of 29.71. For February, the number was 23.47. The average daily peak population for both male and female inmates during the month was 283. ....
