Rawalpindi : The heavy rainfall on Wednesday raised the water level of Nullah Leh considerably to 21 feet here at Katarian and 15 feet at Gawalmandi creating a sense of fear and panic among residents of low-lying localities as the local administration blew ‘warning sirens’.
The local administration also issued a ‘Red Alert’ warning the public of possible urban flooding.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Saidpur Village received 128mm rain, Golra received 106mm, Bokra 22mm, PMD, H-8 received 69mm, Shamsabad 34mm and Chaklala received 18mm rain. The Met Office has also predicted a thunderstorm with isolated heavy rainfall in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad in the next 24-hours. ....

Rawalpindi : Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid Ahmed Wednesday said that Leh Expressway project would be started this year on priority.
“Leh Expressway is very important for the residents of the city. The sitting government is eager to resolve public issues and ‘Leh Expressway’ is on top of the priority list. I know public is facing
several problems and I will try my level best to
resolve them,” he made the remarks in a conversation with media personnel during his visit to Nullah Leh to monitor the situation.
“The Leh Expressway
is aimed at treating the city’s sewerage and providing an alternate road connecting Rawalpindi with Islamabad, which will help clean up the traffic mess on Murree Road, Peshawar Road and Airport Road,” he said. ....

Rawalpindi : The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Saturday declared a rain emergency in the district directing residents settled along Nullah Leh and in low-lying areas to remain on high alert and move to safer places. The residents should adopt precautionary measure because water level in Nullah Leh could touch the dangerous level during heavy rainfall in coming days, Wasa has warned.
The water level in Nullah Leh here at Katarian was 11.4 feet while 7 feet in Gwalmandi during heavy rainfall on Saturday.
Wasa Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood told ‘The News’ that ‘Rain Emergency’ has been declared due to heavy rainfall in the coming days from Saturday to Tuesday. “The residents settled along Nullah Leh and in low-lying localities have been directed to shift to some safer places to avert any difficulty during heavy rainfall,” he said adding the leaves of all staff members have been cancelled a ....

Rawalpindi : Electricity loadshedding coupled with hot weather has affected the water supply system of the city and although there is enough water in the Rawal and Khanpur dams to meet the city’s requirements for the next three months but excessive loadshedding is making it hard for the citizens to get their water tanks filled on time, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood said in an emergency meeting held here on Thursday.
He said that the areas where water was supplied through tubewells including Sadiqabad, Muslim Town, Pirwadhai, Dhoke Hassu, Dhoke Mangtal, Khayabanp-e-Sir Syed, Banni, Pindora, Asghar Mall, Dhoke Kala Khan and several others were the most affected. “We are getting enough water supply from Khanpur and Rawal dams but we are unable to supply it to the public due to prolonged loadshedding,” he said.
