Community Content The Newton Community Development Foundation partnered with the Federal Pharmacy Partnership program and Walgreens at Casselman House and Newton Health and Human Services at Weeks House to improve vaccine access for the underserved and high-risk contingent of the Newton community. Between the vaccine clinics recently completed at Casselman House and Weeks House, NCDF reported an anticipated over 90% of the combined 130 residents being vaccinated, as well as the majority of property staff. NCDF is a private, nonprofit organization that fosters economic and cultural diversity in the city of Newton through the development, ownership and management of affordable and mixed income housing communities. NCDF provides property management services for other nonprofit organizations and housing authorities in Newton and neighboring communities. ....
FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: vaccination clinic opening in Newton for vulnerable older residents Community Content Newton resident Dr. Justin Holtzman and the team at the Holtzman Medical Group worked with us on a wonderful opportunity to help our older residents who may be most vulnerable due to lack of access to technology and who have been facing difficulty in booking vaccination appointments. Staff in the mayor’s office, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Senior Services has been fielding hundreds of calls and sharing the frustration that people are feeling in trying to get these very important appointments. ....
FROM THE MAYOR’S OFFICE: Vaccine distribution Community Content Vaccination distribution will be a group effort in Newton with many providers needed as supplies increase and more people become eligible according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health criteria. Newton Health and Human Services is one of the providers. Last week, we finished up the first round of vaccinations for our first responders. We re also beginning to vaccinate some people living and working in Newton’s group home settings that meet the specific state criteria for congregate care programs and haven’t set up alternative arrangements. “We know how frustrated all of us are about the spotty information for the Phase II vaccinations,” Mayor Ruthanne Fuller said. ....
From the Mayor s Office: Special election on March 16, 2021 Community Content Mark your calendar. The special election to fill two vacant seats on the City Council will be on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. The City Council set the election date to fill the at-large seat from Ward 1 left vacant after the death last month of Councilor Jay Ciccone, and to fill the at-large seat in Ward 2 left vacant by the election of Jake Auchincloss to the U.S. Congress. Nomination papers can be picked up at the City Clerk’s office at City Hall starting next Tuesday, Dec. 28, and must be returned by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021. Candidates for City Council at-large seats need signatures of 150 registered Newton voters certified by the City Clerk’s Office for their name to appear on the election ballot. ....
