Ready for probe, says U.P. Education Minister

Controversy over his brother’s recruitment as Assistant Professor under the EWS quota.
A controversy broke out in Uttar Pradesh after the State’s Education Minister’s brother was appointed as an Assistant Professor in a university in Siddhartnagar district under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota.
While the university maintained that the recruitment was based on merit, the Minister said he was ready for a probe in the matter.
Arun Kumar, brother of Satish Chandra Dwivedi, Minister of State (Independent Charge) Basic Education, was appointed by the Siddharth University, a State University.
In a State where caste politics reigns supreme, the Minister was left wanting for a clarification after it came to light that his brother had been appointed under the EWS quota. ....

Outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Kathmandu has appointed the boss of its Rip Curl brand to lead the company.
Michael Daly replaces former CEO and managing director Xavier Simonet following his departure from the dual ASX/NZX listed company.
Daly has been the chief executive of Rip Curl for eight years. The company is now in the process of finding a replacement to lead the surf brand.
In a NZX announcement, Kathmandu chairman David Kirk said after an extensive search for a new group CEO and managing director the company had chosen Daly. ....

Andres Centino appointed as new Army chief

DEFENSE Secretary Delfin Lorenzana confirmed on Saturday, May 15, 2021, the appointment of Major General Andres Centino as the new chief of the Philippine Army.
Centino, commander of the 4th Infantry Division based in Cagayan de Oro City, will be replacing Lieutenant General Jose Faustino. He was the former deputy chief of staff for operations.
Centino and Faustino are both members of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1988.
Earlier, Senator Panfilo Lacson questioned the appointment of Faustino, citing the law prohibiting the designation of an Army official who has less than a year in service.
Faustino assumed office in February 2021, succeeding General Cirilito Sobejana who was appointed as the chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. ....

Kathmandu, May 13 (UNI) K P Sharma Oli, who had lost the vote of confidence on May 10 in the Parliament, was once again appointed as the Prime Minister of Nepal as the Opposition parties failed to garner the majority vote to form a government.
Mr Oli was re-appointed as he was the leader of the single largest party in the House.
According to local media, country President Bidya Devi Bhandari had given the Parliamentary parties three-days time to form a majority government. However, today, Ms Bhandari, in a statement, said that none of the parties or an alliance stepped forward with a claim to form the government. ....
