Lady Dannatt attends Mass for Prince Philip Lady Dannatt, the Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk, joined a requiem Mass for Prince Philip which was celebrated by the Bishop of East Anglia, the Rt Rev Alan Hopes, at St John’s Cathedral. In his homily, Bishop Alan recalled the funeral ceremony in 2011 of Otto von Habsburg, the last Crown Prince of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Following a Mass at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, his cortège made its way to the Franciscan Capuchin church. The chamberlain knocked on the door with his staff and from within a friar asked: “Who seeks entry?” ....
Vigil for nurse Estrella at St John’s Cathedral An all-night prayer vigil and Mass is taking place at St John the Baptist Cathedral in Norwich tonight for city nurse, mother and Cathedral steward Estrella Catalan, who died on February 5 at the Norfolk and Norwich hospital where she worked, after a month-long battle against Covid-19. Keith Morris reports. Estrella’s funeral requiem Mass will take place on Friday (March 5) at noon and is for family and close friends only with a 30-person limit in place. Bishop Alan Hopes will celebrate the Mass and the homily will be given by Cathedral Dean, Canon David Paul. ....
St Patrick s National School delivered over 300 care packages and provided a hot Christmas dinner to homeless people last Sunday. The Greystones school, church and greater community collected items for the care packages over the past two weeks. The students collected over 1,200 toys for children living in poverty in the city centre, and they provided Christmas dinner and festive entertainment at the weekend for homeless people in the Lighthouse Homeless Centre, Pearse Street. Speaking about the Christmas initiative, St. Patrick s School Principal, Rachel Harper said: This Christmas was always going to be different and we wanted to highlight to the children, what we can do, rather than what we can t do. So we thought about how our community could reach out to another, less fortunate ones and make a difference. ....
