ABC has announced details of its new half hour weekly arts show, Art Works. To be hosted by arts broadcaster Namila Benson, the series will screen on ABC TV Plus from early May. “ Art Works will deliver candid, surprising, unexpected and funny insights from a whole range of creatives. It’s a place where stories, experiences and ideas will be shared and exchanged; where we can engage, debate, critique or just observe. And that’s the beauty of art, it’s for everybody,” she said. New ABC eight-part psychological mystery Wakefield will be available to binge on ABC iview in full from Friday April 2, two weeks ahead of its linear airdate. Following its iview premiere, it will air weekly on ABC, from Sunday 18th April at 8.30pm. The series from Jungle Entertainment stars British actor Rudi Dharmalingam ( The Split, In The Shadow of The Moon), Geraldine Hakewill ( Wanted, Miss Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries) and Mandy McElhinney ( House of Hancock, Bad Mothers) plus Harriet Dyer, Harry Greenwood, Ryan Corr, Felicity Ward, Kim Gyngell, Dan Wyllie, Sam Simmons and Bessie Holland. ABC is ending its Arts show The Mix after 7 years, but another weekly show is in the pipeline. Presenter Lisa Skerrett told viewers, “After 7 years of dedicated Arts & Culture coverage, The Mix will soon be finishing up. I know I speak for everyone involved with the show when I say we have loved the opportunity of bringing you so many great stories from across the Arts.” The Mix is the ABC’s weekly arts, entertainment and culture program profiling art, television, movies, books, games, gigs, theatre and more. But ABC Director Entertainment & Specialist Michael Carrington tells TV Tonight about some of the surprises in store this year. New comedy Aftertaste, with Erik Thomson as an angry chef returning home to Adelaide, premieres tonight. The series is produced by Closer Productions ( The Hunting) with Michael Carrington noting Thomson’s abrasive character will face redemption. “We’re very excited about it. It’s a terrific comedy, starring Erik Thompson and Natalie Abbott. Her character is charming, and gives the emotional, humorous connection, that hopefully softens him as the series progresses,” he says. ....
