Education Engagement Strategy now open for discussion

NT Government
The Territory Labor Government is seeking public input into an innovative strategy that will set a new course for student engagement and improved educational outcomes.
The Education Engagement Strategy, to be released later this year, will be a framework for meaningful, accessible education stemming from purposeful and engaging learning processes.
Acknowledging the key role communities have in leading schools, the strategy will outline actions that can be led by students, families and broader communities across the NT in collaboration with the education system to successfully engage and motivate students and support their wellbeing.

Meldreth father Steve Mallen has said he is well on his way to making good on a public promise he made at the funeral of his 18-year-son Edward, who died from suicide six years ago last week.
Edward Mallen, a former head boy at Melbourn Village College, took his own life following the sudden and inexplicable onset of clinical depression in 2015.
Steve has spent much of the past six years investigating the mental health sector and seeking reform in his son s memory.
Steve told the Crow: “Edward’s death was a terrible tragedy.  Importantly though, it was an avoidable tragedy.  In trying to honour my promise to my dear lad, I have been seeking to improve mental health services, change the law and ensure that all those in crisis - especially young people - get the help they require. ....

Vicky Phelan and support group hit back at senior doctor's suggestion that women who developed cancer after screening weren't 'wronged'

It is misleading and not factually correct to say these were mistakes and missed readings, she suggested.
The letter has been criticised by Vicky Phelan, who developed cervical cancer after screening and first revealed failings in the CervicalCheck programme.
Ms Phelan posted on Twitter: “2.5 years after my case broke open the CervicalCheck debacle and an independent review by Dr Gabriel Scally found that CervicalCheck was doomed to fail identifying serious gaps in governance structures and misogynistic treatment and this.”
The 221+ support group also said they were deeply concerned by comments attributed to Dr Russell. They said they will be writing immediately to the CervicalCheck Steering Committee to express concerns that the comments betrays the commitment of Government and operational agencies to a cultural change in CervicalCheck. ....
