Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem’s role as secretary to the Electoral Commission was questioned during a consultation on proposed amendments to electoral laws conducted by the parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights in Labasa recently.
During the forum at Wavuwavu Primary School, Vavalagi resident Mere Martin also asked the committee to explain why Mr Saneem held more than one position. In his response, committee chairman Alvick Maharaj said her concern had been raised at consultations around Viti Levu.
“We have actually been moving around Fiji and similar questions have been raised about the role of supervisor as the general secretary to the Electoral Commission,” he said. ....

There is growing interest in public consultations on the three election-related Bills and the 2018 General Election Joint Report.
The Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights is currently holding consultations in the North and chairperson Alvick Maharaj said that it is important that members of the public attend and air their opinions on these Bills and Report so that the voice of the Fijian people is heard.
All the submissions we received would be considered when the Committee deliberates on its Report before it is tabled in Parliament for further debate and consideration.
“In that regard, we continue to invite all Fijians in the North to come to the locations scheduled in the North and make use of these opportunities.” ....
