Sinai funeral home makes livestreaming standard at graveside services – J.

Sinai Memorial Chapel, the only Jewish funeral home between Los Angeles and Seattle, will start livestreaming most of its graveside funeral services by the middle of this month, executive director Sam Salkin has announced.
The cost-free option will allow family members and friends who may not be able to travel during the pandemic for health or cost-related reasons the ability to view and listen to the funeral service on their computer or cellphone.
The funeral home will be using Viewlogies (rhymes with eulogies), an S.F.-based funeral streaming company whose services have seen increased demand during the pandemic.
Family members can send invitations to the service through a passcode-protected link. After the service ends, the video is archived for later viewing. ....

It has been nearly a year since the Covid virus unceremoniously injected itself into almost every dimension of our daily lives. It has meant “Not Business as Usual” at Sinai Memorial Chapel, our community’s nonprofit funeral home and chevra kadisha (Jewish burial society) since 1901.
Our service to our community continues to be grounded in
chesed shel
K’vod hamet, honoring the deceased, is our guide, first and foremost.
In mid-March 2020, in order to respond to the emerging Covid pandemic, we felt compelled to turn our world upside down. Our operating priority became the health and well-being of our community and staff. We could not allow funerals to create more funerals. ....

Max Rodrigues Garcia
Max Rodrigues Garcia
Our father, Max Rodrigues Garcia, came to the United States with only hopes and dreams after surviving nearly three years as a prisoner within the Holocaust. He ultimately lived the “American Dream” and with our mother, Pat (1927-2002), they passed those hopes and dreams to us, David (1957), Tania (1960) and Michelle (1961).
Max was born in Amsterdam, June 28, 1924. He never again saw his parents, Elias and Rosetta, nor his sister Sippora, after they were murdered in 1942 and 1943. He was a prisoner of four different German concentration camps, including 18 months in Auschwitz as well as two death marches. When he was liberated by the 3rd Cavalry (U.S. Army) from a concentration camp, Ebensee, in the Austrian Alps on May 6, 1945, he was close to death but he found the strengt ....
