Breaking News | Nigeria loses $18b annually to tax evasion, money laundering, others – CISLAC

Against the backdrop of corrupt practices in Nigeria, Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center CISLAC, on Tuesday, lamented rising increase in corruption in Nigeria saying the country loses about $18b annually to tax evasion, money laundering and other related offences especially outside the country.
Speaking in Lagos, at a media workshop for investigative journalists on “Effective Reporting of the Asset Recovery and Management System in Nigeria,” which took place in Ikeja G.R.A, CISLAC Executive Director, Auwal Ibrahim Musa (RAFSANJANI) said the $18b according to International financial intelligence has rated Nigera the worst in illicit financial flows offenders in Africa, in terms of elaborate international fraud schemes. ....

Kidnapping in schools: Interfaith urges Gov El-Rufai to ensure security

Participants at the monthly forum organised by Interfaith Mediation Centre, IMC, has enjoined the Kaduna State government to be proactive in providing security in schools in the state.
The forum expressed dismay at the increased rate of kidnapping in the state particularly students in the state.
The Co-executive Directors of the Centre, Imam Dr. Muhammad Nurayn Ashafa and Pastor Dr. James Movel Wuye, who issued the resolutions, urged the state government to heed the calls by people to negotiate with the kidnappers/bandits of the abducted students of the Federal Forestry Mechanization College Afaka, to facilitate their release. ....

Corruption: Publish report on Magu's investigation - Dino Melaye tells FG


Former Senator who represented the Kogi West Senatorial District in the 8th National Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye has asked the Federal Government to publish a report from the investigation on the former acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu.
Recall that the EFCC boss was arrested by the Department of State Services on July 6 2020 over alleged diversion of recovered funds.
The FG subsequently instituted a Presidential Panel of Inquiry chaired by Justice Ayo Salami to investigate the allegations of financial misconduct against the embattled EFCC boss, Magu.
Senator Dino Melaye, in a Twitter video on Thursday demanded that the report from the investigation be made known to Nigerians. ....

EFCC only detained Clerk, lawmaker, Ondo Assembly insists

THE Ondo State House of Assembly on Monday said only two persons in the Assembly were in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission over the allegation of fraud and not four as earlier reported in the media.
It was earlier reported that the Clerk of the House, Mr Bode Aladeyelu, a lawmaker, Mr Bankole Felemugudu, representing Akoko South West Constituency, and two other civil servants were detained by the anti-graft agency, but the Assembly said only the Clerk and the lawmaker were detained.
Speaking on the development, the spokesman of the House, Gbenga Omole, said the two civil servants were not in the custody of the anti-graft commission. ....
