A year of firsts and lasts for Coughlin High School


While this year has been a year of firsts for Coughlin High School due to the unprecedented coronavirus, it is also a year of lasts. The current senior class will be the last graduating class of Coughlin. Next school year, James M. Coughlin, Elmer L. Meyers, and G.A.R Memorial high schools will combine to form Wilkes-Barre Area High School. Students and teachers are excited to attend the brand new, state-of-the-art school. Nonetheless, many have taken it upon themselves to make Coughlin’s last year one to remember.
Coronavirus has presented many of Coughlin’s clubs with a unique challenge. While the clubs wish to make this last year of Coughlin memorable, COVID-19 guidelines have made annual club trips, activities, and events nearly impossible. Despite the obstacles, Coughlin’s clubs have persevered by coming up with creative and innovative ways to continue their functions while remaining safe. ....

CMHS students to state BPA; 13 from Great Oaks advance

Virtual competitions in finance, marketing, technology, and management ended with 13 Clinton-Massie students headed to online state competition in March. The annual events were held by the regional Business Professionals of America organization.
Students from across the region demonstrated their knowledge and ability in a variety of ways. The competitions included financial analysis, website design, marketing research, computer programming demonstrations, video creation, and more. The top finishers in each of the 90 events advance to state, where they test their skills against other top Ohio high schoolers.
The Clinton-Massie students are in the Financial Services program offered by Great Oaks Career Campuses at Clinton-Massie High School. Those who qualified for state competition are: ....

Although Westwood High School students previously had taken part in Business Professionals of America Regional Leadership Conference competition, this year’s regional event was held virtually because of COVID-19, with over 250 Upper Peninsula students taking part from Jan. 6-13. ....
