KENNEBUNK, Maine – The town is proposing significant changes to its process and fees for beach parking permits.
Currently, residents can get their first vehicle permit for free, while second and third ones cost $5 and $10, respectively. According to Finance Director Joel Downs, the town is proposing $5 for every permit, starting with the first.
Another proposed change: license plate numbers would be printed on the permit, restricting a permit to a particular vehicle.
“That’s very much of a change,” Downs said.
Residents also would be required to present proof that they are a taxpayer in town, Downs said.
The proposed changes are consistent with what other Maine coastal communities have been doing with their beach parking permitting process, Downs noted.
