The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (
MPCB) regional office of
Pune on Monday issued a show-cause closure notice to the ready-mix concrete plant (RMC) near the Mamurdi Urban Forest Co-Operative Housing Society, following complaints from residents.
The order said the plant should be dismantled in a fortnight, otherwise the water and electricity supplies will be disconnected.
Locals claimed to have been suffering various health issues due to the RMC plant menace over the last seven months. MPCB sub-regional officer Nitin Shinde had earlier said that officials visited the society after detailed news coverage by this newspaper. ....

MPCB) officials set up an air pollution monitoring unit to check the degrading air quality caused by the ready-mix-cement (RMC) plant in the Mamurdi’s Urban Forest Housing Society.
Mirror had earlier published the news of residents’ lives becoming miserable due to an RMC plant located close to the residential society. Due to the ill-effects of the RMC plant, the residents are suffering multiple health issues and pollution menace.
Nitin Shinde, a sub-regional officer of MPCB, told Mirror, “After the detailed coverage of Mirror, our team visited the society and inspected the RMC plant nearby. We are regularly checking the air quality of the housing society and keeping tabs on it. ” ....

Despite several complaints by residents of Mamurdi’s
Urban Forest Co-Operative Society to multiple authorities and the cancellation of NOC by the civic body, the RMC plant is still thriving.
The lives of over 400 residents, living in the Urban Forest Co-Operative Society at Mamurdi near Dehu Road, have become hell thanks to a ready-mix cement (RMC) plant located just 60 metres from their society. They are suffering multiple
health issues and pollution menace due to the plant.
Despite repeated complaints, the government authorities did not pay any heed to their woes.
Over 90 per cent residents of the society, which is located behind Masulkar Farm near Dehu Road, work in the IT sector. They had selected the society in the outskirts of the city due to lush green surrounding, clean air and peaceful atmosphere, however, the residents lost their peace of mind after the plant came here in December last year. ....

Vidarbha, where Delta variant originated, has no case of Delta+ yet | Nagpur News


NAGPUR: None of the 21 Maharashtra samples found to have the Delta plus variant of coronavirus is from Vidarbha. The state health department had collected 7,500 samples from all districts across Maharashtra to test for the variant, which was declared a ‘variant of concern’ (VoC) by the Centre on Tuesday.
Majority of the samples are from the Konkan region, including Mumbai. Delta plus is considered to be a triple mutant an additional mutation in the Delta variant which was first found in Amravati and is believed to have triggered the second wave of Covid-19 in February.
State health minister Rajesh Tope said that of the 21 patients found infected with Delta plus, 9 were from Ratnagiri, 7 from Jalgaon, 2 from Mumbai and 1 each from Palghar, Sindhudurg and Thane. Genome sequencing was conducted on the 7,500 samples that were collected since May 15, he added. ....
