We Are Lady Parts is a British sit-com about an all-girl Muslim punk band, and it is glorious. It is sweet, empowering, and very, very funny with a diverse, female-led cast and some very clever writing. The series runs for six 25-minute episodes written and directed by Nida Manzoor, and we watched the whole thing in a single sitting, alternately cackling with laughter and hiding behind the sofa in an agony of vicarious embarrassment.
The story is narrated by Amina (Anjana Vasan), a PhD student in microbiology who just wants to find a nice husband. She’s the last person in her circle of friends who isn’t either engaged or married. When she meets a handsome man handing out flyers for a band that is seeking a guitarist, she goes to the address on the flyer, in the hope of tracking him down. Instead she finds Saira (Sarah Kameela Impey), Bisma (Faith Omole), Ayesha (Juliette Motamed) and Momtaz (Lucie Shorthouse ....
