The AAO has announced the creation of a new task force to contribute leadership on inclusiveness and diversity issues and help ensure that the needs of all members are met. Last year the application process for the task force opened and members were invited to apply to serve on it.
“We are very excited to have eight committed and accomplished individuals joining in our efforts and bringing their leadership skills and creativity to our work on inclusion,” said AAO President Dr. Christopher Roberts. “We believe that diversity is a strength and ensuring the involvement of our diverse membership will only make the AAO stronger.” ....

Black pastors are attempting to solve the disparity in vaccine distribution and get more shots in arms of the people part of their underserved communities.
The plan is to get more vaccines into trusted venues- places that are in the heart of underserved communities led by people the community trusts. Members of the Statewide Covid-19 Vaccine Community Education and Engagement Task Force is trying to set up vaccine sites at Black churches across the state, HBCUs, and other places that are easy for underserved communities to access.” ....

Black clergy are stepping up across the country to help make the COVID-19 vaccine accessible in communities that have been disproportionately hurt by the pandemic.
As several states struggle to close racial gaps in vaccinations, faith leaders are taking the reins as trusted figures in Black communities. Some are teaming up with government officials to encourage people to get their shots and to alleviate fears about the vaccines.
Initial data on coronavirus vaccines show white Americans are getting vaccinated at a higher rate than minorities, despite the increased infections and deaths in communities of color. ....
