UK Women's Forum to Focus on Intersectionality in March Professional Development Sessions


LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 15, 2021)
 Do you want to expand your understanding of diversity and inclusivity? It is time to talk about intersectionality with the University of Kentucky Women’s Forum. The March professional development session and monthly “Coffee and Connect” programming will explore the concept and history of intersectionality, help you to recognize your own intersectional identities, and provide strategies for incorporating intersectionality into diversity and inclusivity initiatives.
From 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 16, on Zoom, Demetria McDonald, founder and CEO of Decide Diversity, will discuss intersectionality. McDonald works with groups across the country to improve diversity and inclusion practices that positively impact business results. In 2019, she received Young Leader of Louisville recognition from Louisville Business First. Decide Diversity is a company focused on increasing the presence and effectiveness of underrepresented groups ....

Noteworthies: Local college students earn academic honors



Eli Joseph Jarvis of Los Altos made the dean’s list at Wentworth Institute of Technology for the fall semester.


Emer Martinez of Mountain View made the dean’s list at Fairfield University for the fall semester.

Colin Small of Los Altos made the dean’s list at the University of New Hampshire for earning highest honors in the fall semester. Small is a computer science major.

Lily Szalay of Los Altos made the dean’s list at the College of William & Mary for the fall semester.
Three students from Los Altos who attend the Georgia Institute of Technology earned degrees at the end of the fall semester. ....

Last week in Cadena s state, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed the Respect New Mexico Women and Families Act, repealing a state-level ban on abortion that predated
Roe. Activists said overturning the currently unenforceable law, which would have been reactivated if
Roe is overturned, is essential to preserving abortion rights.
Now, the organizing around the bill could be a model to other states. And the victory challenges some assumptions about who will drive the next phase in the movement to protect reproductive rights. ....

UK Celebrates Women's History Month

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 5, 2021) Throughout the month of March, the University of Kentucky will recognize Women’s History Month with a series of events and special programs.
Women’s History Month is about honoring the achievements and contributions women have made across the U.S. and throughout the world. The UK Martin Luther King (MLK) Center will host a variety of programs, in collaboration with its campus partners, in addition to the College of Arts and Sciences, the UK Women’s Forum, the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) and other campus organizations.
Many programs will honor UK women throughout the institution s history. ....
