The European Union has unveiled a sweeping plan to slash its carbon emissions by 55 per cent before 2030, potentially reshaping the global trading order by imposing border tariffs on nations – like Australia – that do not have some form of carbon price.
“By acting now we can do things another way. and choose a better, healthier and more prosperous way for the future,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday of the plan. ....

Two thirds of Australians have given up dream of owning a home as house prices soar


Two thirds of Australians have resigned themselves to never owning their own home as house prices continue to skyrocket. 
House price to income ratios are soaring nationwide, but the biggest gap is in Sydney s market, where the average price of a home is eight times higher than an average salary in the city.
To combat the boom, the NSW Government tabled offering $25,000 grants to first home buyers in an attempt to help them afford a deposit.
The proposed grant would replace existing stamp duty concessions and could potentially see home ownership in the state rise by six per cent.
That would see an additional 300,000 families afforded the opportunity to buy a home each year. ....
