Two local organizations discovered students at Nicholson Elementary miss meals outside of school in the Picayune School District and now feed students on weekends.
GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - Every day, one in four children in Mississippi faces hunger. That sobering statistic comes from Feeding America, one of the many organizations working to end hunger in our nation. Numbers from the school lunch program illustrate how widespread the nutrition gap is in our state.
For the 2019-2020 school year, the United States Department of Agriculture said Mississippi had approximately 357,000 children eligible for free and reduced-price lunch, or about 74% of children in participating schools. ....

This spring, the West Aurora Unit District 129 board has announced the appointment of two new principals and new two assistant principals.
• Jeff Bryant was appointed as principal of Jefferson Middle School for the 2021-2022 school year. Since 2015, Bryant has served as the assistant principal of teaching and learning at Jefferson Middle School. In that role, he has been responsible for developing the master schedule, implementing district and state assessments, and leading building-level professional development. Additional leadership responsibilities have included the integration of Challenging Learning, the research-based instructional framework that embraces the curiosity, complexity, and joy of learning. ....
