Nearly 1,500 young people have already expressed interest in volunteering at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama (7 – 17 July 2022). This number was given by Nick Sellers, CEO of the Birmingham Organising Committee, during last week s Coordination Committee Meeting (CoCom).
During the three-hour meeting, the representatives of the Birmingham Organising Committee (BOC) gave a comprehensive overview of preparations for the Games next year. It was the first joint meeting of the year leading up to the Games. In a joint exchange, representatives from the BOC and IWGA set milestones for this year.
Nick Sellers used the reference to the numerous applications for volunteering at The World Games as a good sign: news of next year s Games has reached not only Birmingham, but now the world. Each morning, Lyle Thompson jogs around his home in the Six Nations reserve south of Toronto. Four laps around his property equal a mile. He mixes up his routine with sprints and longer runs. Next, he stretches and lifts kettlebells. Finally, he grabs his lacrosse stick and fires on a goal in his yard for up to an hour, sometimes longer. Home-cooked meals with lots of vegetables are in. BJCC Marks Topping Out of $174M Protective Stadium in Birmingham

Construction of the $174 million Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex’s Protective Stadium marked a key milestone last week with a “topping out” celebration.
A topping out marks the ceremonial placement of the last steel beam in a construction project. Due to COVID-19, officials signed the beam over three days at the construction site. Once signed, the beam was lifted by crane and fastened to the support structure for Protective Stadium’s score board.
“It was important for us to mark this construction milestone, albeit a little differently than we would have,” said Tad Snider, executive director and CEO, BJCC Authority. “Protective Stadium is a public-private partnership, with many entities working together to produce a worldclass facility for Birmingham. The topping out honors those partnerships while demonstrating the project’s significant progress.” ....
