Shooting under investigation in Schenectady | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS Shares0 Schenectady – City police are investigating a shooting that happened Thursday night on Moyston Street and left a man with non-life-threatening injuries. Sgt. Nick Mannix said a call about a shooting came in about 9:14 p.m., with police arriving shortly after. At 9:46 a man entered Ellis Hospital with gunshot wounds. Mannix said the man was later transferred to Albany Medical Center. It’s unclear if he is still at Albany Med. The age of the man and where he was shot has not been released “I don’t think we’re releasing any of that information at this time,” he said. ....

Police in Schenectady continue to meet with mental health professionals from Northern Rivers Family of Services when certain emergency calls warrant that type of response. And at Capital Region TMS, a depression treatment facility on Union Street in Schenectady, director of clinical services Mary Ruhle said she’s out straight with patient appointments, and Ruhle is logging 60-plus hour work weeks. Her colleague, Dr. Thomas Qualtere, said the pandemic has broadened feelings of isolation, stress and even the mourning of loved ones who died of the coronavirus. ....
HIGH NOTES: Help for the homeless, food for spring break, vaccination success | The Daily Gazette SECTIONS In Schenectady, city police Sgt. Nick Mannix and Lt. Ryan Macherone, seeing a need to help the homeless rather than punish them, worked with community agencies over the winter to provide supplies for those living in a homeless encampment off of Lomasney Avenue until they could find housing. The officers could have taken the more conventional route by simply ordering the dozen or so people living in the camp to disperse. But they took a more humanitarian approach to the problem, enlisting the local agencies to bring meals and other supplies and eventually to help eliminate the need for them to live in the wooded area at all. Among the groups assisting with the effort were Bethesda House of Schenectady, Catholic Charities, New Choices Recovery Center, Schenectady County Health Services, City Mission, Schenectady Community Action Program and Mohawk Opportunities. ....
