Here is what we know — and don't know — about the suspected Russian hack

Here is what we know and don t know about the suspected Russian hack

Hackers gained access to Treasury emails
U.S. officials are deeply concerned about a massive and ongoing cyberattack targeting large companies and U.S. agencies, including the Treasury and Commerce Department. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) called the attack a grave risk to national security.
Cybersecurity experts believe that in March a well-organized group of hackers exploited a loophole in products developed by SolarWinds, an IT firm that provides technology software for government agencies and hundreds of large companies, including Microsoft which helped investigate and report the attack. By hacking SolarWinds, the attacker was able to access sensitive information and monitor the communications of dozens of companies and agencies that use the company s software, including the departments of Treasury, Commerce and Energy, a ....

Community Action Services: This has been a record-setting year for Utah County's generosity | Community News

Feeding America reported that “before the COVID-19 crisis began, food insecurity in the U.S. was the lowest it had been in more than 20 years.” Now, however, “millions of people are newly experiencing food insecurity.”
In Utah County, for example, the food insecurity rate in 2018 was 10.6%. In 2020, that number is projected to have risen to 12.8%. But, at Community Action Services and Food Bank, we’ve witnessed record-breaking generosity this year.
From the Valley United Against Hunger Food Drive to Giving Tuesday, here are some examples of how Utahns have cared for each other.
Valley United Against Hunger Food Drive
Every year, students from Brigham Young and Utah Valley universities work together to raise money and collect canned food for CASFB. Because of COVID-19 restrictions, many of the popular Valley United events were canceled this year. ....

Why can't I vote on my phone?

Why can t I vote on my phone?

Twitter and Facebook s election challenges
My phone is the digital master key that unlocks my life. Like millions of people, I use it to buy groceries, send cash to family and friends, read sensitive work documents, save passwords, and update social media. So why can t I use it to vote?
To participate in this fall s election, a record number of voters confronted a gauntlet of challenges, including long lines at polling locations and overwhelmed postal service. Many obstacles would seem surmountable with a smartphone. After all, even the oldest iPhone and Android devices are, by orders of magnitude, more powerful than the computers that sent humans to the moon, and more capable than most election machines, some of which still run archaic operating systems.  ....

NY Electoral College will meet in person. Cuomo says his hands are tied.

ALBANY – Eight words in state law could force the Clintons, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other members of New York s Democratic political elite to gather indoors in the middle of a global pandemic.
Each state s Electoral College delegation will meet Monday to formally elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris the nation s next president and vice president, fulfilling a constitutional duty even as incumbent Donald Trump continues his long-shot bid to overturn the election in court.
The meetings come as COVID-19 infections continue to rise at a rapid rate across the state and country, leading New York at one point to explore whether it could allow its 29 electors to vote remotely for safety s sake. ....
