Tue Mar 9, 2021 Bruce Bawer is a Shillman Fellow at the David Horowitz Freedom Center. Stand-up comedians used to have a simple rule: no subject is off-limits if the joke is funny. It was a good rule, and it made for some great comedy. The rise of the woke left represents an existential threat to that rule, and to good comedy generally. When it comes to comedy, indeed, the mantra, increasingly, is that any gag that might conceivably offend anyone, especially someone belonging to what the woke left considers a victim group, should simply not be tolerated – period. To an alarming extent, this comedy-killing mentality has been institutionalized at outfits like Netflix and Comedy Central, at some comedy clubs, and in the mainstream media. So it is that the comics who are most honored in such circles are dreary scolds like the Tasmanian lesbian Hannah Gadsby, whose acts are light on actual humor and heavy on identity politics. COMEDY CENTRAL TO DEBUT DOCUMENTARY ON PATRICE O'NEAL THIS FRIDAY

By Mike Johnson on 2021-02-16 08:10:00 Comedy Central will debut a new documentary on comedian Patrice O Neal Killing Is Easy this Friday at 10 PM EST. O Neal passed away in November 2011 at the age of 41 due to complications of a stroke suffered the previous month. O Neal had a short run on WWE Creative in 2000 after being offered a position based on his standup act.   He went on the road for WWE for a week and often joked about his short run during appearances on the Opie & Anthony radio show.  O Neall once told the story of blowing off a meeting (and an offered contract) to do standup, which made Stephanie McMahon so angry she called and fired him, and then called back several times to fire him again and again because he was shrugging it off as a comedian who was used to jumping from gig to gig.
