Photo courtesy of ASSOU 2020-2021 has been a year of many changes for Southern Oregon University, least of which is the transitions of leadership that have taken place in the ASSOU. The turnover has caused some concern from students, with an emphasis on the state of the student budget and whether the inconsistency in leadership has slowed the process. There have been three leadership transferalls since the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic: from Sarah Grulikowski to Niko Hatch, from Niko Hatch to Andrew Zucker, and from Andrew Zucker to standing President Violet Crain. The former two presidents stepped down from the role for varying reasons, and the latter has since graduated from SOU. ....
The first meeting of the Associated Students of Southern Oregon University started when the Speaker of the House, Violet Crain, called the meeting to order at 6:02 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The first item discussed was a grievance about the minutes from Dec. 8, 2020, which was voted to be tabled until next week, while the motion to suspend the minutes from Dec. 15, 2020, was also voted on. Both motions were passed 9-0-1. New ASSOU President Niko Hatch welcomed the meeting and spoke about creating a Proctoring Software Taskforce, and is looking for a student to sit in on that committee. The presiding ASSOU Justice, Monica Benton, spoke of hiring a new justice soon and, as of writing, has now heard applicants for the position this past Friday, Jan. 8. ....
Hello SOU Community, My name is Niko Hatch, and as of this past December 8th I am now your new ASSOU President. My predecessor Sarah Grulikowski has decided to withdraw from the position. I would like to extend my thanks from the student body to Sarah Grulikowski for her leadership and guidance through the beginning of this year and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors. As her Vice President I assumed the office upon her withdrawal, and a new Vice President was elected from within the ASSOU body. I would like to extend congratulations to Andrew Zucker for being appointed the new ASSOU Vice President, and we both look forward to serving you as your student leaders. ....
