Gender stereotypes have been identified as one of the factors militating against the rights of women and girls in Nigeria and the world at large. The big question is how to challenge different stereotypes against women. This issue was raised in the just-concluded Vanguard International Women’s Day held in Radisson Blu, Victoria Island, Lagos.
With the theme: Nigerian Women and COVID-19 Resilience, and the #Choose to Challenge, they spoke against all forms of stereotypes that women face on daily basis. In this extract, they have decided to challenge gender stereotypes. ....

Education, interest in alternative medicine associated with believing misinformation

While many people believe misinformation on Facebook and Twitter from time to time, people with lower education or health literacy levels, a tendency to use alternative medicine or a distrust of the health care system are more likely to believe inaccurate medical postings than others, according to research published by the American Psychological Association.
Inaccurate information is a barrier to good health care because it can discourage people from taking preventive measures to head off illness and make them hesitant to seek care when they get sick, said lead author Laura D. Scherer, PhD, with the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Identifying who is most susceptible to misinformation might lend considerable insight into how such information spreads and provide us with new avenues for intervention. ....

Just as big uptake of telehealth marked the first quarter of the eHealth year in Australia, developments in electronic prescribing increased in pace in the second. As part of a range of measures to help get medications to patients quickly and safely, the federal government announced it would fast-track the roll out of electronic prescribing, having made the legislative changes allowing eScripts as a legal alternative to paper late last year.
In March, the Department of Health proposed a development sprint with prescribing and dispensing software vendors to get the majority of GPs and pharmacies with the capability within eight weeks. While our survey of GP software vendors showed a couple would be ready with their fast-tracked versions, there was no way it would reach 80 per cent within two months.
