Mecklenburg County Officials Provide A Homeless Shelter Update As Extreme Weather Approaches

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Mecklenburg County officials say additional resources are being put into place to expand emergency shelter operations for the homeless in response to the extreme weather forecasted overnight Thursday, January 7th.
As the winter weather approaches, Roof Above officials say they have extended its Day Services Center hours, which are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, to allow the use of restrooms, hand washing stations, and outside radiated heaters during these extended hours.
Mecklenburg County officials say they have extended leases on nearly 160 hotel rooms in continued support of social distancing at the Salvation Army Center of Hope and Safe Alliance during the winter season. ....

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - A winter storm is moving through the WBTV viewing area. Schools have changed learning plans and businesses have closed as areas see snowfall and wintry weather.

Snow will taper off early tonight, with overnight low temperatures cooling into the 20s by Saturday morning. Concerns for icy roads will mainly be confined to the NC mountains and foothills, yet some icy spots will be possible across the piedmont. Some patchy freezing fog may develop as well. ....

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - As a winter blast comes through the WBTV viewing area, shelters are expanding capacity in Mecklenburg County for the homeless population.
Roof Above has extended its Day Services Center hours, which are 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. during the week and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
