Australian parking-tech pioneer, KERB wins Kuala Lumpur 'Smart City' challenge

A Brisbane-based technology company that helps match car drivers with parking spots has won a major global technology challenge.
The US$250,000 prize money will now help KERB introduce its congestion-reducing technology. Company executives believe there are 690,000 parking spaces in Kuala Lumpur, which their marketplace can unlock.
‘We are currently encouraging all Malaysians with an empty parking space to download the KERB app and help reduce congestion,’ says David Albaiceta, Regional Director, Southeast Asia.
The 2020 global challenge was launched by the Toyota Mobility Foundation and co-developed by the Deloitte Future of Mobility Solution Centre.
Austrade encouraged KERB’s submission, and works with the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to encourage Australian–Malaysian collaboration in digital projects. ....

City Architecture for Tomorrow Challenge Awards Winners Numina and KERB US$500K for Implementation in Kuala Lumpur
City Architecture for Tomorrow Challenge (CATCH) launched in February 2020 with a global call for dynamic and data-driven solutions to address mobility and city planning challenges in Kuala Lumpur.
Six finalists developed Minimum Viable Products (MVP) of their innovative solutions including demand responsive transit, smart cameras, synthetic data modeling solution, data fusion platform, and parking solution towards improving mobility and city planning.
Numina (US) and KERB (Australia) selected as joint winners and will receive US$250,000 each as a grant award for their solution trial and implementation of their solutions in Kuala Lumpur. ....

TMF will continue to work together with strategic partners including
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and its data partners - Prasarana, MapIT, and Grab - to support the finalists until the selection of a final winner in April-May 2021. This support includes the financial grant by TMF and incubation and mentorship provided by experts and judges supporting this CATCH program.
