[email protected] JERSEY SHORE The Jersey Shore Area School District could realize a savings of at least $50,000, if not more, from the refinancing of debt following approval of a resolution setting the process in motion. Under the motion, the district administration will work with PFM Financial Advisors LLC along with a bond counsel and the district’s solicitor to proceed with the issuance of general obligation bonds, series of 2021. The proceeds will be used in refunding the district’s four bonds from 2012 and 2015. PFM proposed using a dual track process for refunding which would compare using either a bank loan or a bond issue to determine the best option for the district. ....
A man pleaded guilty before a Davidson County judge Tuesday to killing Missy Hamilton. He was sentenced to life in prison. Brian Conley, 33, appeared before Judge Mark Fishburn and entered a plea agreement in the murder of Hamilton, a 50-year-old Nashville counselor, in December 2019. Hamilton was stabbed 73 times and sexually assaulted. Investigators described the murder as brutal. Hamilton, of Smyrna, was found dead inside Crossroads Counseling in Madison, where she worked as the assistant director. The woman, raised in Mount Juliet, battled addiction, and a stint in jail ultimately led her to her calling: helping those who struggled with addiction to drugs and alcohol. ....

At Tuesday’s Centre County commissioners’ meeting, three key adult service items were passed unanimously by the board. The biggest item was submission of Centre County’s emergency rental assistance program plan to the Department of Human Services. The project total is for $10,680,110, which is federally funded through the period of March 1, 2021 through Dec. 31, 2021. “As you can imagine, with that price tag and of course, the need that’s in the community we expect a high submission rate,” said Faith Ryan, Centre County adult services director. “We are working internally at this time to figure out how we want to plan for logistics and how we want to manage our high call volume.” ....

In a relatively short 22-minute meeting, they approved several contracts and moved several items to next week’s consent agenda. County administrator Margaret Gray opened the meeting by reminding residents that the free COVID-19 testing site operated by AMI Expeditionary Healthcare re-opened on Tuesday at its new testing site. The testing site at the old Bon-Ton department store location at the Nittany Mall closed on Saturday. The new testing site is the old Comcast building, located at 1155 Benner Pike, Suite 120. Testing is available from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. ....
