Art&Antiques: Warhol, Still and Diebenkorn in Sotheby's sale


 
The private collection of the late American philanthropist and art collector Anne Marion will be unveiled at Sotheby’s in New York, ahead of a number of sales in May. Her collection, anchored by post-war American art, is estimated in the region of $150 million (€125m).
She was the fourth generation of the Texan Burnett ranching dynasty, whose distinctive red and white barn was used as the backdrop for Marlboro cigarette advertising in the 1960s and 1970s. She died of lung cancer in February 2020.
The family owned more than a third of a million acres at their 6666 ranch, one of the largest in the Lone Star State. ....

STREAMING REVIEW: March-ing forward


It’s March, Women’s History Month, and three of the choices here today have strong Women themes. One is Frances McDormand in Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland (Best Director & Best Motion Picture – Drama at the Golden Globes), and there’s Amy Poehler’s Moxie, set in High School USA. The Assistant is a thinly disguised take on Miramax and Harvey. And there’s a wonderful documentary about forgeries in the world of Art.
Nomadland (on Demand) – This is the road movie for today. If decades ago, it would be about social rebels taking to the open highways, or a pair of mismatched individuals finding understanding and friendship while on a trip; this road movie is about the uprooted individual American (in this case, Fern, the recently widowed character played by Frances McDormand).
