STAR STAFF Upper Valley Disposal Service, Upper Valley Recycling and Clover Flat Landfill issued a detailed statement Friday denying allegations leveled by neighbors in a recent lawsuit, while two of the plaintiffs spoke out about how the companiesâ operations have affected their lives. The companiesâ statement called the lawsuit âmeritlessâ and âbased on a combination of false allegations and inaccurate descriptions of isolated past incidents, which have been remedied to the satisfaction of the applicable regulatory authorities or are currently being addressed under their supervision.â Seven neighbors of UVDSâ Whitehall Lane recycling and composting facility sued the companies May 10 in Napa Superior Court, alleging ongoing problems with odors, noise, light pollution, and fire hazards. REGISTER STAFF On Tuesday, a Napa Superior Court jury found that a Napa State Hospital patient convicted in the 1980s of a horrific crime against a 3-month-old infant in Vacaville, is a sexually violent predator. Thomas Clifton Turner, 57, will be committed for treatment for an indefinite period of time to the California Department of State Hospitals at Coalinga. Judge Mark Boessenecker presided over the six-day trial in which two psychologists testified that Turner currently suffers from multiple mental disorders that predisposed him to act in a sexually violent, predatory manner. The doctors said there was a substantial danger that he would re-offend if released into the community. ....
Napa business owner pleads not guilty to weapons charges; bail lowered to $1.5M [Napa Valley Register, Calif.] Jan. 29 Facing more than two dozen state and federal charges in connection to what authorities have described as a cache of pipe bombs, rifles and ammunition at his home and auto repair business, Ian Rogers pleaded not guilty to the charges Friday morning in Napa Superior Court. Defense attorney Jess Raphael entered the plea on behalf of the 44-year-old owner of British Auto Repair of the Napa Valley during a hearing at the Napa County Courthouse, where Rogers was arraigned Jan. 20 on 28 counts of possessing pipe bombs and illegal firearms. Rogers took part in the hearing by video, having been held in the Napa County Jail since his arrest Jan. 15. ....
