Texas State Cemetery in Austin: Historical figures buried there


A crowd of perhaps 100 people gathered near the coffin on a mild spring day. Friends, family and clergy spoke briefly and read from scripture. 
Before and after the graveside memorial for legendary public relations lion Julian Read advisor to six presidents at the Texas State Cemetery, admirers, clad in dark hues, mixed among the marble and granite monuments that bedeck Republic Hill, where some of the state s founders are buried.
Read, who died May 8 at age 93 after a full life, had witnessed Texas history.
Across a dinner table, he could recount details about the Nov. 22, 1963, assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas he was the first spokesman to explain to the press what happened in the presidential limousine. Over lunch, Read could regale you with perfectly polished anecdotes about governors, legislators and civic leaders, or chat about the finer points of midcentury modern design. ....

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Alabama lawmakers are in Montgomery getting ready for the second week of the legislative session.

Two families who both lost loved ones from to murder say their accused killers should not have been on the streets. Now both families are fighting for laws to change in Alabama.

YOUNGSTOWN The Youngstown State University Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion presents the Men of Color Summit Feb. 26 and 27.
Zoom meeting sessions are 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 26 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 27.
The keynote speaker on Feb. 26 is Richard B. Marks Jr., the director of the Cross-Cultural Center and Center for Global Citizenship at Saint Louis University. He is a graduate of Indiana University, with both a bachelor’s in African American Studies / Sociology and a master’s in Higher Education Administration in Student Affairs.
Marks earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California. Marks’ dissertation “As the World Turns: Being Black and Gay on Campus in the 21st Century,” explores factors contributing to the black gay men at a predominately white institution in southern California. ....
