One woman, a pair of comfy walking shoes, a good eye for a shot and the camera on her self-professed crappy phone have done wonders to elevate the image of Drogheda in the past year, showing off its hidden treasures and splendid vistas. As we go to press, Ann McVeigh is either on Day 12 of 100 days of walking 2021, or Day 378, as she started on January 1st last year, and she shares her varied routes with friends and followers on social media, while getting fresh air and exercise for herself. I was blessed to be able to do the full year last year, and I just decided to keep going, and will do as long as I can, says Ann, who lives on the Chord Road in Drogheda. I got the idea from Karen Devine, who had completed the 100 days in 2019, so I joined in with Dr Ciara Kelly on Newstalk last year, and have just kept going! ....
He comes from local music royalty and now songwriter and guitarist Tadhg Leahy has completed four tracks as part of an Arts Council award he received during the summer. He has enlisted the help of another local talented musician - and another Tadgh, this time violinist Tadhg Murphy - to enrich the tunes, which are inspired by icons of Drogheda. Back in June I was given the Covid-19 Music Response award by the Arts Council of Ireland, and I had been working on a few pieces that I hoped my grandmother Helen (Leahy) would accompany me on, especially one I called The Road, after the Chord Road, where we all grew up and lived in, says Tadhg, whose dad Barry (Baz) is also a well-known and talented guitarist, and uncle Brendan is a renowned drummer. Helen didn t really have the time to learn the pieces in time, so for the craic, I asked Tadhg (Murphy) to join me, and in the end, we recorded a live session at home when we could. ....
updated: Jan 01 2021, 02:41 ist In a joint operation, Basaveshwara Nagar and Magadi Road police raided the house of a realtor and seized 114 bottles of liquor stashed illegally for the New Year’s party. Police arrested Mani, 62, a resident of West of Chord Road, after getting information that he was stashing liquor illegally. The bottles were bought from the warrant officer of the Indian Air Force canteen at Mehkri Circle. The seized liquor included Black & White (26 bottles), 100 Pipers (55 bottles), Peter Scot and Blender’s Pride (13 bottles each) and MC Roy’s (5 bottles). All the bottles are 750 ml. In total, police seized 85 litres of liquor. Excise department officials said a person was allowed to store only three litres of liquor. ....
