Years ago, Ghulam Mustafa, popularly known as Shaman Chandio, had had the chance to see Jalal Chandio, a famous folk dancer, perform live at a wedding in his village in Garhi Khuda Bux. The moment was a defining one for Chandio - now forty years old. It prompted him to switch professions from that of a fruit seller to a folk dancer.
Since then, branding himself a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) jiyala, Chandio has been a regular at PPP rallies, where he grooves to the catchy tunes of ‘Dila Teer Bija’ and other anthems of the party. ....

In an increasing middle-class community, the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties saw rising demand for figure paintings that depicted family life and conveyed cultural values and moral beliefs. Such paintings at the time were roughly categorized into three themes: paying tribute to ancestors, hailing harmony among family members and commemorating social activities, and preserving core values embodied in social customs. Family Harmony, an exhibition on now at the Long Museum in Shanghai, examines the roles of Ming and Qing figure paintings in carrying forward values and cultural traditions to future generations. Paintings shown at the exhibition, which runs until March 7, are from the collections of the Hunan Provincial Museum in Changsha and Changsha Grand View Culture Gallery. ....

LAST December 23, 2020, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella had to quell the rumor that he was hospitalized and in a coma. He underwent gallbladder surgery three months earlier, on September 3, but since then, the mayor said, he had not been admitted to the hospital, except for wound-dressing and other post-operation consultation. Destiny Street must have seemed like a dead end to Richard Hell & The Voidoids in 1982. Unsatisfied with the art punk originators’ second and final album, perhaps troubled by its rather thin, muffled sound or its flailing chaos, Hell wanted desperately to remix the wild and woolly successor to 1977’s seminal
Blank Generation debut. Unfortunately, the original 24-track masters went missing, preventing Hell from performing the necessary operation.
As luck would have it, in the early 2000s, Hell stumbled upon a cassette from 1981 with all the LP’s rhythm tacks, which allowed him to install thrilling new guitar forays and urgent vocals in 2009’s ....
