American economist, George Arthur Akerlof, was born June 17, 1940, in New Haven, Connecticut. His father, Gosta Akerlof, chemist and inventor, migrated from Sweden, while his mother, Rosalie, migrated from Germany. Akerlof began his education in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he was kicked out of Kindergarten but, later readmitted. After his father was fired, they were forced to relocate to New Hampshire. His mother, Rosalie, did not like the education he was receiving their so, they moved to Washington. Their he attended SIdwell Friends School. In 1950, George s dad invented titanium rings. 14 Michigan Students Are National Merit Scholarship Winners

Fourteen Michigan students have been named winners for the 2021 corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship Program.
The winners were announced on Wednesday and include approximately 1,000 high-school seniors from across the U.S. According to a press release from the National Merit Scholarship Program, the corporate scholarships are financed by about 140 corporations, company foundations and other business organizations.
The awards are renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study and students get a stipend that s anywhere between $1,000 - $10,000 each year. Some of the awards include a single payment between $2,500-$5,000.

More than 1.5 million students applied for the highly competitive scholarship and the program says that around 7,500 students will go on to win scholarships in 2021 that total $30 million. Winners of the $2,500 scholarships and the college-sponsored scholarships will be announced later this year. ....

Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick has launched the Substance Abuse and Addiction Loss Support Group for families who are coping with loss due to addiction.
The free and confidential support group meets virtually on the second Thursday of every month from 7-8:30 p.m.
Inspired by Saint Peter’s Opioid Task Force, the Substance Abuse and Addiction Loss Support Group is for families and close loved ones of people who have passed away from addiction.
The support group is open to everyone in New Jersey and serves as a safe space for families to discuss their grief. ....
