The United Arab Emirates is facing questions for allowing the party lifestyle of Dubai to continue in a pandemic, amid fears that thousands who flocked to the Gulf state for sunbathing and cocktails have ended up spreading Covid around the world. 
After opening its borders to New Year’s Eve revellers, including a host of British Instagram influencers , several countries have blamed Dubai for exacerbating the pandemic.  ....

London halts UAE flights as several countries fear Dubai boosting COVID spread

Britain on Tuesday banned all direct flights between Britain and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the entry of all non-citizens who have been to the UAE. Returning citizens will be subjected to severe quarantine measures.
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said the UAE has been added to the government’s “red list” along with Burundi and Rwanda from 1.00 p.m. (1300 GMT) on Friday.
According to Reuters, due to travel disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the route was the world’s busiest in January, serving as a key hub between east and west. ....

Dubai blamed for surge in Covid-19 cases as holiday makers return home


The United Arab Emirates has experienced a spike in cases, particularly in its ultra-modern shopping and partying city over the past few months. Now, international organisations fear that the nation is unable to handle the increase.
Similarly, Dubai is now being blamed for the increase in coronavirus cases internationally, as tourists were largely permitted to travel to and from the city over the New Year.
According to AP, Dubai s media office has said that the sheikhdom is doing everything possible to handle the pandemic in an appropriate way.
After a year of managing the pandemic, we can confidently say the current situation is under control and we have our plans to surge any capacity in the health care system should a need rise, they said. ....

After throwing its doors open to partygoers over the New Year, Dubai is now facing the economic cost of surging coronavirus cases as flight bans threaten its £23billion tourism sector.  
Britain last night placed an outright travel ban on the Middle East party haven where the New Year revelry has been blamed for a spike in infections. 
Denmark also shut down flights last week while Germany is now requiring negative tests for travellers from the UAE. 
Before the pandemic struck last year, 100,000 British tourists a month were visiting Dubai during the winter, typically spending £34million per month to stay in its stylish hotels - which now face a setback after enjoying a revival in December.  ....
